There have been a lot of iOS apps in 2015 – some of them were absolutely fantastic, while others not so much. Considering that you might have received and iOS device as a gift during X-Mas, we, here at TrendingTechNow, scoured the Apple store and found the best ones.
Given that January is a dead-month, because everyone is saving up on money, trying to replenish that bank account, which took a beating over the December holiday, you’re most likely staying in-doors, finding new budget-friendly ways to entertain yourself.
So, why not put that iOS device to good use?
Below you’ll find the best iOS apps in 2015 – split in categories.
Best iOS apps of 2015 – Lifestyle
Sleep++ will enable your Apple Watch to become a sleep tracker. Make sure that your smartwatch is charged, open the app and switch it on Airplane Mode. It doesn’t use that much battery, actually the amount is quite little. All of the data will be saved on HealthKit on your phone.
Download Sleep++ – [Free]
Eve is designed for women, and their sexual health needs. It tracks sexual activity, as well as offering ovulation and menstruation tracking. The app can be synced with other fitness apps or wearables, in order to analyze the data in a more collective fashion.
Download EVE – [Free]
ChopChop is fantastic if you plan on holding a dinner party, or a special occasion of sorts, for all of your best buds. We all know that timing is crucial when you’re the cook, and ChopChop is your best digital kitchen assistant.
It offers details on what courses you can make, and, if you tell the app how much people you are planning on serving, as well as the date and time, it will create the perfect game plan so the food doesn’t get too cold while you’re entertaining guests instead of serving them.
You can even send invitations via the app, and showcase the planned menu for your dinner party guests.
Download ChopChop – [Free]
Eating healthy and staying in shape isn’t anything to be ashamed off – no matter how much you’re getting picked on by your gluttonous friends. A healthy mind and body will make healthy life choices.
Even though it’s not that easy to stick to the plan, Lifesum encourages the user to keep his, or hers, healthy life-style by providing better food options, assisting the user with exercise routines and advice on hitting goals.
Download Lifesum – [Free]
Keeping a journal is a really therapeutic experience – even if it’s just for writing down nonsense or venting about what a horrible day you’ve had. Moodnotes analyses your notes and it tracks your feelings and moods.
If you continue to use it, on a daily basis, it gets better at reflecting your mood and it actually learns your thought patterns and what advice to offer best. It also offers advice on how to get out of thinking traps – in a rather straightforward manner.
Download Moodnotes – [$3.99]
Basil is a platform for those who plan on cooking at home, instead of spending a lot of money on eating out. It used to be available only for those who owned an iPad, but the developer released an iPhone version as well – with a huge update.
You can organize your recipes and search its vast collection of goodies. Add your own, or import recipes from BonAppetit, AllRecipes, RealSimple and Epicurious – the most popular recipe platforms.
Download Basil – [$3.99]
While clearly not revolutionizing the music streaming industry in any way, Apple Music filled the gap for the Cupertino-based company. A gap, which the company was ignoring for quite some time.
With a huge variety of artists, a ton of radio options, Apple Music is among the great music streaming platforms such as Google Play Music and Spotify.
Apple Music – [$9.99 a month]
Apple awarded Hopper with the title of Travel App of the Year, and it truly deserves it. It predicts when the flights you want to buy tickets for get huge discounts, or when the price increases. Hopper offers advice by notifying you when is the best time to book a flight.
The developer claims that it helps users buy tickets up to 40% cheaper, and in 95% of the cases will get you a discounted flight.
Download Hopper – [Free]
Overcast is the perfect app for listening to podcasts. Considering that the one Apple paired with their operating system is downright glitchy, Overcast comes as a knight in shining armor. It provides the user with the possibility to download new episodes of the podcasts he or she is following as well as streaming them over WiFi.
The Voice Boost feature enhances volume for a much crisp and clear sound. Smart Speed is another cool feature, but it’s quite odd. It shortens the episode by moving passed silences in the stream as well as increasing the speed of playback.
The Sleep Timer feature will stop the show after you’ve went nappy nap, so you don’t wake up in the middle of the night by murdery noises.
Download Overcast – [Free]
Carrot Weather is a weird and quirky app. It’s developed by Dark Sky, the same team who built that fitness app, which insults you until you lose weight.
Besides being full of Wes Andersonesque elements, it really does predict weather quite accurately.
Also, don’t be shocked of seeing flying sharks, or evil penguins on the screen. Instead of the traditional sunny beach or rainy picture, you’ll get weird images foretelling tornadoes – the flying sharks; or snow – evil penguins.
Download Carrot Weather – [$3.99]
You know what’s super fun to do? Coloring.
Doesn’t matter if you’re 15 or 35, adult coloring books, besides being super popular, prove to be an incredibly entertaining way to get rid of stress. And, go figure, a virtual-version of the hobby has appeared on iOS.
I’ve tried Pigment on both the iPad and iPhone and I wholeheartedly recommend it.
It reduces stress and anxiety, it helps you stay focused, and, if you want to feel challenged, you can take on more sophisticated patterns and designs.

Best iOS apps of 2015 – Productivity
Even though Cortana has been around for quite some time now, Microsoft only released it on OS in 2015. The virtual assistant has the same features as Siri, with one advantage, however.
The Notebook, which I have grown to love, is a database comprised of all the information that Cortana knows about you – kind of creepy and awesome at the same time.
Download Cortana – [Free]
A great app for those who love to travel, WiFiMapper finds all the WiFi hotspots in your area, and it displays where exactly you need to go to get that sweet data-juice.
The OpenSignal app community powers WiFiMapper and it uses only hotspots that are recommended by its users.

It does exactly what it says – you press one button and it records sound and delivers it to your cloud storage as an M4A file – AAC.
It’s available on iOS as well as OS X.

It’s basically a new home screen on top of your iOS one. With Relevant, you can check the weather, breaking news, stock information, your calendar and whatnot. It lets you organize your most frequently visited websites under the form of cards – making them easily accessible.

It’s a calendar app, which provides weather information alongside the user’s daily events. Surprisingly, forecasts are quite accurate.
Download Timepage – [$4.99]
Microsoft purchased Acompli and did a complete make-over with their outdated version of Outlook. To be frank, it’s one of the best Gmail clients that you can use on your iPhone or iPad.
I think Outlook will be the ultimate email app in 2016.
Download Outlook – [Free]
Copied is super helpful if you crawl the web on a daily, no, hourly basis. It’s super simple to use, and its flexibility makes it stand out.
You can copy any image or text and save them to the cloud. The app can be synced on various devices, so you can access your saved goodies on your computer or phone – yet, the computer has to be running on OS X.
Download Copied – [Free]
If you can’t put a stop to your spending, and if you monthly get a loan from whoever is lucky enough to know you, then you definitely need Splitwise. It’s the perfect IOU manager that helps you keep track of everything you owe, and sort all of the payments through PayPal.
Create groups for people who you owe money to so you never forget you loves you – or who’s going to kill you in case you don’t pay them back on time.
Also, another great feature is the bill splitter – Splitwise is the perfect app when you go to eat with your buds, have a couple of drinks, all on the same bill, and at the end, you need to split everything accordingly.
Download Splitwise – [Free]
If you are writer of things – poetry, journalism, novels, or academia stuff; then you’ll most likely fall in love with Ulysses.
It has a distraction-free interface, clean and text-centric.
It’s the best iOS app if you’re spewing ideas left and right – you wordsmith, you.

Google Keep has been on Android for as long as I can remember, but it only arrived on Apple’s OS last year. You can create a to-do list, organize and prioritize the things you need to do in a day, week or month and search for them by text, audio or photo.
Lists can be shared with others, and you can collaborate with friends in real time.
Everything you do on Google Keep will be saved to the cloud.

Lara Croft GO
Lara Croft GO is available on Windows, Windows Phone, iOS and Android. It’s a turn-based game, which Apple awarded it with the title of Game of the Year.
The point of the game is to guide Lara through a variety of obstacles, kill, or avoid, pesky enemies, get passed traps and solve puzzles.
There are six levels and you’ll have to go complete north of 101 puzzles.
Regardless if you’re a Tomb Raider fan or not, it’s a great game, which might serve as a gateway to the whole TR franchise.
Download Lara Croft GO – [$1.99]
Without any CAD experience whatsoever, you can turn your drawing into 3D prints by just, you know, drawing and doodling.
The app comes directly from the guys and girls who created the MakerBot 3D printer, and it’s designed to make 3D design and printing more viable and easier to get into.
It’s available only for the iPad. The app also works solely with a MakerBot printer, so if you have anything else, tough luck.

If you’re a Fallout fan, and you haven’t played Fallout Shelter yet, you have absolutely no excuse. Yet, we’ll let it slide this time around.
Fallout Shelter lets the player take control of his own vault – commonly known as a nuclear shelter. The player’s job is to keep denizens happy, and grow the community so humanity can start to get on track with whatever it was doing before the nuclear fallout commenced.
You don’t need an internet connection to play it, so it makes Fallout Shelter the perfect game to play on your morning commute.

Breathing new life on the franchise that started it all, Pac-Man 256 is based on the famously bugged 256th level of Pac-Man. It’s available for both iOS and Android.
You need to help Pac-Man navigate through the infinite maze, and get passed ghosts by either munching them after you’ve got a power-up, or by simply avoiding them.
There’s no end in sight, as the maze goes on and on, but it’s so much fun to play if you take it as a challenge, constantly trying to improve your record.

Emojis are slowly starting to take over the world, and I don’t think I’m upset if they actually do become our new overlords.
In 2015, Instagram captions witnessed how emojis surpassed text.

Clearly, it’s not as complex as the desktop version, but it can still satisfy your on-the-go editing needs.

There isn’t anything complicated about Envato, as the process will take you through easy-to-understand steps such as – add text here, or don’t, add a description here, or don’t, and so on.
After you’ve finished personalizing your video, it’ll take a few minutes for it to be ready and shareable via email, or on Twitter and Facebook.

Flickr remodeled, and reshaped their Web and iOS app in 2015, to make it more intuitive and user-friendly.
You get a ton of new awesome features, such as Auto-Uploadr, which lets you synch all of your photos from the camera roll.
The camera roll got a complete overhaul, and now it finally works without a hitch. With the new search function, you can sort your results by content, rather than the old-fashioned way, which asked you to input a date or the file name.
The Flickr app offers 1 TB of free storage, which makes it even more interesting

DSCO by VSCO. I know it sounds a little bit confusing, but this app is one of the perfect gif-makers I’ve ever played with. With a variety of filters, stitching the perfect gif together is just a pleasure.
All of your hard work will be saved to the camera roll as either GIFs or MP4s.
Download DSCO – [Free]
The giant of our list, Google Photos, has been completely redesigned in 2015, making it a must-download.
It’s quite similar to Flickr, but with one huge difference – Google Photos offers unlimited free storage, but there are some catches. Photos are limited to 16 megapixels, and videos to 1080p. Not bad, to be frank.
You can upload higher quality photos and videos, but they will count as Google Drive data.
Download Google Photos – [Free]
Another Instagram-made app, Layout is perfect if you plan on making collages, as it offers you the option to mix and match up to nine pictures at once. All of your creations will be auto-sized to fit on Instagram, and you can edit them using the app’s tools and filters.
